Are you an apple, pear, mandarin or melon? You've probably never been asked this question, even though it's very important. These are all breast types: round & full, A-shaped, small and large. The shape and fullness of your breasts are important when determining which shape bra suits you best. Below we will explain the difference in shapes and fullness of breasts and which types of bra there are. With that information in hand you can answer the question: which type of bra is best for me! The information is found below.
What breast shapes do we know?
Breasts are usually divided into categories. We limit ourselves to four types based on the shape and size of the breast. Do you have full, round, firm breasts? Then you're an APPLE. Is the skin relaxed above the nipple? Then you're a PEAR. Can you easy cover one of your breasts in your hand? Then you're a MANDARIN. Or do you have heavy, large breasts? Then you're a MELON.
The apple-shaped breast can be recognised by a beautiful, round shape where the volume of the breast is equally distributed. The nipples are in the middle and they are 'filled' both at the top and the bottom of the breast. The apple shape can occur in both large and small cup sizes. If you have apple-shaped breasts, you can wear almost all types of bras. You don't need specific support and the volume does not have to distributed in a certain way. In other words: you can be very pleased with this breast shape. It makes your bra choice a lot easier!
You're lucky! You can basically wear every type of bra. Underwire support is not a necessity for you. It's up to you to decide if you want to make your breasts seem larger with a push-up bra. Perhaps you'd like to draw attention to your cleavage with a balconette bra. Even adhesive, strapless and bandeau bras are perfect for you.
In pear-shaped breasts the volume is mostly gathered at the underside of the breasts. The nipples protrude a little. Pear-shaped breasts occur in both large and small cup sizes. You often see this breast shape after a weight change, pregnancy, gradually as you get older or in runners. With pear-shaped breasts you need a bra that provides sufficient support and equally distributes the fullness of the breasts. In other words: a bra that slightly lifts the breasts, dividing the volume equally over the bra. That way, you breasts seem more full.
The push-up bra lifts your breasts a bit, making them seem more full at the top. The higher the cups, the higher the fortification between them, improving breast support. Don't want a lift effect? Every moulded bra is good for your breast type. Underwire support is an absolute must for your breasts.
Mandarin-shaped breasts are small breasts. One advantage is they never look vulgar; they're cute. Disadvantage is that they sometimes get lost under clothing. We want to mostly give small breasts more volume and shape. This is rather easy nowadays with a push-up bra. Push-up bras come in all shapes and sizes:
Do you want to look bigger and more full, go for a push-up bra. Some designs visually add up to two cup sizes. However, a classic - moulded or not - bra or a nice bandeau bra also looks great with mandarin-shaped breasts.
Melon-shaped breasts are round, full breasts with a bigger cup size. The nipples are in the middle. The breasts are large, full and round and generally also heavy. This type of breasts often occurs during pregnancy. With a melon shape you need sufficient support. Because of the weight of the breasts you also need sturdy, comfortable and sometimes broader shoulder straps.
